Adrienne founded Athena in 2020, building on more than a decade of consulting experience across sectors, industries, and geographies at two of the world’s leading firms. Drawing on that foundation, she set out to create a firm that combines big-firm rigor with the agility, creativity, and culture of a modern boutique consultancy.
Under her leadership, Athena has grown into a trusted advisor for State, Local, and Federal agencies, delivering actuarial and strategic consulting services that go beyond technical compliance to drive operational and administrative improvements. Adrienne brings deep expertise in data management, assumption setting, benefit evaluation, funding mechanisms, and ASOP-compliant reporting. She also advises clients on streamlining operations, modernizing benefit administration, and improving governance—always with a focus on actionable solutions that anticipate client needs.
Adrienne is known for bringing both energy and expertise to every engagement, and for fostering a workplace where her team thrives. By combining tested methodologies with a problem-solving mindset, she has established Athena as a partner clients trust to navigate their most complex challenges.
Outside of Athena, Adrienne finds her greatest joy with her family—her partner Josh, their daughter Lena, and their two dogs, Rocky and Shelby. She credits Josh’s support with making it possible for her to go “all in” on building Athena, while also cherishing the balance of family life.
Lauren serves as Chief Operating Officer at Athena Actuarial Consulting, leading day-to-day operations and ensuring that teams are empowered, processes are optimized, and clients consistently receive exceptional results. She began her career in actuarial consulting and data analytics, supporting several federal agencies, where she developed a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and problem-solving. Lauren later earned her Master of Science in Business Analytics, further honing her ability to turn complex data into actionable insights.
At Athena, she thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution—using data-driven insights to guide decisions, improve operational efficiency, and track progress toward company goals. Lauren is passionate about building high-performing teams, fostering transparency, and creating systems that transform vision into measurable results.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys watching and playing soccer recreationally, cooking up new recipes in the kitchen, and spending time with her family and friends who live in the D.C. area.
As Chief Strategy Officer, Katherine leads our client service practices and business development team, shaping strategic direction. She uses her experience as a versatile corporate leader to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, operational efficiency, and client success. She views her role as a catalyst for success, empowering her talented colleagues – some of the brightest minds in professional services – to exceed client expectations.
Before joining Athena, Katherine was a leader at a global professional services firm, where she served clients in both commercial and public sectors. As a CPA and PMP, she led teams and provided services in pension plan consulting, benefit programs, forensic accounting, compliance, fraud prevention, valuation, corporate restructuring, due diligence, risk management, internal controls, and process improvement. It was in this role that she honed her ability to blend technical expertise with strategic insight, developing a passion for solving complex challenges.
Outside of work, Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband (Martin), daughter (Elle), and their mini goldendoodle (Portia). She also loves live music, and her favorite band is Third Eye Blind.
Alicia is a Pension Actuary with over twenty years of experience as an actuarial consultant to private and public sector employers as well as multiemployer plans, with an emphasis on the valuation and analysis of qualified and non-qualified pension and retiree medical plans. Her extensive experience includes performing funding and accounting actuarial valuations, assisting clients with their benefit plan administration, communicating benefits to employees, implementing benefit increases, designing and costing out plan benefits, presenting at board meetings and executing all aspects involved with implementing and terminating a pension plan. Alicia is passionate about learning and developing herself and those around her.
Outside of work, Alicia’s primary focus is her family which includes husband, Tim, and sons, Dylan, Riley and Liam. Her dog, Hannah, is always by her side. She enjoys traveling all over the US and enjoys the occasional puzzle to wind down the night.
Sheri is a senior consulting actuary working in both post-retirement healthcare and pensions. She has spent over 30 years managing large teams and projects with overall responsibility for client delivery and satisfaction. Sheri provides technical actuarial analyses and advises clients in a wide range of areas, with a special focus on post-retirement health plans (OPEB) including valuations and audit support, pension actuarial audits and special projects, and strategic pension administration support. Her work includes considerable experience in complex project management, communication and tracking, resource deployment and organizational development.
Megan is a fully credentialed actuary with 23 years of experience encompassing practice in both retirement and health prior to joining ATHENA in May 2025. Her experience includes actuarial valuation and forecasting of pension and OPEB liabilities for both public and corporate plan sponsors, actuarial analysis and review of pension funding policies and sustainability initiatives for public sector pension systems, and analysis of sources of unfunded liabilities for state and municipal pension funds. She has provided independent audit of postretirement health plan liabilities and assumptions as well as health plan claims reserves for large state clients. She was a leader in a national center of excellence for retiree health claims analysis, overseeing claims cost development, advising clients on actuarial assumptions pertaining to postretirement health plan valuations and providing substantive plan review for over 100 clients annually. Outside of work Megan enjoys mountain biking, hiking and exploring the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with her husband and son. She’s also an avid reader and loves to cook.
Logan has over seven years of professional consulting experience in actuarial valuation services and data analytics projects. He has provided pension actuarial services for a variety of Federal clients in assessing the reasonability of plan assumptions, valuation programming, benefit calculation reviews, and developing finalized valuation reports. He handles complex mathematical concepts and calculations daily, typically consulting with certified actuaries. Logan has experience in handling large sets of data and providing easy to digest reports and visuals for summarizing data. Throughout his time in consulting, Logan has become skilled in management, leadership, teaming, and has the ability to adapt to new technologies seamlessly.
Outside of work, Logan’s primary focus is his family which includes his wife, Kelly, and their one-year-old son, Noah. He enjoys playing fetch with his golden retriever, Dex. On a sunny day, he also appreciates visiting a winery or brewery to relax with family and friends.
Maureen brings a practical, well-rounded perspective to employee benefits consulting, with deep experience in plan design, actuarial analysis, finance, and day-to-day administration. She partners with both public and private employers to help manage group benefits programs with a focus on long-term sustainability and cost control. Her experience includes postretirement medical valuations, incurred but not paid (IBNP) claims reserve analysis, and benefit plan financial projections, supporting clients in maintaining accurate, compliant, and strategic benefits reporting. Maureen’s prior roles include positions at Aon, Mercer, and WTW, as well as corporate experience as Benefits Manager at a large national retail corporation, where she oversaw the full spectrum of employee benefits, including medical, dental, life, accident, and retirement plans. Outside of work, Maureen enjoys time with family and friends, trips to Florida and Northern Wisconsin, and discovering new restaurants. A favorite pastime is watching psychological thrillers and disaster movies – sometimes outdoors, thanks to a backyard projector tradition that started during the pandemic.
Georgiana joined Athena in January 2025 as an Analyst. She has over 2 years of pension actuarial services and data analysis. Her experience includes using advanced mathematical models and actuarial principles to calculate pension liabilities, project future payouts, and provide recommendations to ensure plans remain financially stable and compliant with regulations. Georgiana is passionate about helping every person make informed decisions about plan contributions, risk management, and overall pension strategy.
Outside of work, Georgiana’s primary focus is her family, which includes her fiancé Michael, her almost 2-year-old daughter Valerie, and 2 cats Hazel & Rio. She enjoys going to STL Cardinals baseball games, playing rugby, reading, baking, playing softball and teaching her daughter the game, and traveling with friends and family.
Nettie Meier joined in 2025 as a Principal, leading ATHENA’s consolidated healthcare practice, which brings together healthcare capabilities across employer health, Medicaid, specialty consulting and health informatics. She is an accomplished actuary with nearly 20 years of expertise spanning across government healthcare consulting and health plan management, focusing primarily on Medicaid and Medicare populations. She brings a wealth of experience to Athena, having held prior leadership positions at United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and Mercer’s Government practice.
Outside of work, Nettie enjoys traveling around the country with her camper exploring small towns and national parks, always accompanied by her two dogs Amos and Elsie. She also loves spending time with family and friends, is a local coffee shop enthusiast, and enjoys a puzzle or whittling in her downtime.
Emily is a credentialed actuary specializing in health, property casualty, retirement, and risk assessment. Emily has over twenty years of consulting and industry experience as an actuary focusing on the valuation of liabilities, financial reporting, and risk assessment. She is sought after for her critical thinking in entrepreneurial projects and serves as a catalyst to get new ideas off the ground. Emily enjoys fostering strong professional relationships and mentoring team members to help them grow in their careers.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys family life with her husband Peter, and their daughters Isabella, Penelope, and Amelia. They enjoy hosting holiday dinners, travelling, SCUBA diving, and flying to Traverse City for ice cream. She is active at her church serving dinners, chairing a philanthropic trust, and facilitating the adult education program. She also volunteers at her children’s school and with the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony.
Marit is a credentialed actuary with over eight years of experience in the health insurance industry before joining ATHENA in July 2023. Her expertise centers around Medicaid risk-adjustment and pricing. Marit has gained valuable experience working with a Medicaid Managed Care Organization (MCO) for the majority of her career that adds valuable insight to Medicaid projects. She has also assisted clients in developing RFPs and optimizing risk adjustment program strategies.
Outside of work, Marit enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. She also loves running with her two dogs, skiing, water-skiing and baking.
Aaron Berkowitz is an experienced actuary with a strong background in medical expense analysis, risk management, and pricing. In 2025, he joined Athena Actuarial Consulting, bringing nearly a decade of experience from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, where he held progressively senior roles in medical expense reporting, enterprise risk management, and commercial pricing. Aaron is eager to leverage this diverse experience to help clients solve complex actuarial challenges and drive strategic decision-making.
Outside of work, Aaron has a passion for reading and learning, and loves to do both at a good coffee shop. Most of his non-fiction time is dedicated to math, physics, and history, while his fiction is usually classic literature or sci-fi/fantasy. He’s also been known to dabble in the odd bit of programming, chess, or brushing up on a foreign language.
Arius is an actuarial student with over four years of experience, primarily focusing on life and health products. Their most recent actuarial interest is Medicaid rate-setting! They are progressing toward becoming an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, with four exams completed. They served as Social Media Director for the Sexuality and Gender Alliance of Actuaries (SAGAA) for over a year. During their time in SAGAA, Arius wrote "The Importance of Pronoun Disclosure: A Nonbinary Actuarial Analyst's Perspective," published in both the Actuary Magazine and the Actuarial Review. When not working, Arius enjoys cooking delicious vegan food, growing plants, and doing work within their community.
Alex has over 5 years of public health experience in federal and state government and the nonprofit sector. His experience also includes qualitative and quantitative data analysis, hepatitis surveillance and prevention technical assistance, project management, and academic research. Alex is passionate about improving health outcomes for all people. His favorite project to date has been conducting a large sample study to obtain complete demographic, epidemiologic, and risk factor information for chronic hepatitis C cases in Ohio.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys reading, going to museums, traveling, and exploring new restaurants and parks in his area.
Ryan joined Athena in March 2025 as a Senior Analyst. He has 8+ years of experience working within the Healthcare and Retirement industries. During his time in Retirement consulting, he was involved in completing numerous plan valuations and communicating results to clients. On the Healthcare side, he has experience in both the Valuations and Commercial Pricing divisions. He relies on his strong analytical, time management and problem-solving skills, to meet the needs of his clients.
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys hockey, snowboarding, golf and running.
Ashley joined Athena as a Senior Analyst in January 2024. She has almost 10 years of experience in Accident and Health reinsurance, focused primarily on Medical Stop Loss pricing. She applies her expertise to Medicaid-related projects, contributing to data-driven solutions and financial assessments.
Outside of work she likes to hike, crochet, read, and lift weights.
Michael joined Athena in March 2024 as a Senior Analyst. He has over years of actuarial experience as a Medicare Supplement analyst which included rate setting as well as reserving and valuation work. He is currently pursuing his ASA with 4 exams passed and taking his fifth exam in April 2024. Michael is passionate about helping every person gain affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare, no matter their background or circumstances. He also has a desire to expand his knowledge in computer science, coding, and data analysis.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys basketball, tennis, golf, hiking/nature activities, going to coffee shops, cooking, video games, and spending time with friends and family. He has a 97 year old grandmother that still goes bowling weekly and Michael has never won against her.
Ben came from teaching at a high school level to continue his own education. He received a full-time position as an analyst in March. He’s working on his 3rd exam towards an ASA through the Society of Actuaries. Ben made the career change for a love of math and helping others understand the world a little bit better. He appreciates working in a role that has a positive impact on improving mental health and helping neuroatypical individuals.
In his free time, Ben enjoys fostering dogs, archery, and cooking. He’s a proud uncle with a 5th niece/nephew? on the way.
Aurelie possesses strong analytical, programming and collaboration skills with a passion for utilizing data to solve complex problems and improve people’s health. She is a SAS programmer with over 5 years of experience in writing SAS scripts, interpreting and presenting results of large datasets to maximize efficiency and accuracy within an organization. Her experience also includes extensive knowledge of SQL, Python, R, Java and Tableau. Her passion for improving people’s health condition made her joined Athena in January 2024.
Outside of work, Aurelie enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters. She also loves playing tennis with her daughter and traveling. She is also planning on getting a MPH/biostatistics.
Jacob joined Athena as a Senior Analyst in April 2025. He has 5 years of experience supporting a health plan where he supported a variety of processes. Jacob has experience providing routine IBNR reporting, supporting Medicare Advantage bid submission, commercial large group pricing, MHPAEA compliance and reporting, and SOX compliance documentation. He is currently pursuing an ASA through the Society of Actuaries.
Outside of work, Jacob likes being in and learning about nature, listening to music, magnets, and keeping terrariums. He has 2 dart frogs, a blue crayfish, and his crabs recently had babies.
James is an actuarial student working on his first exam after entering the field following his recent work in insurance claims handling. He has a passion for problem-solving and is always looking for new ways to expand and apply his knowledge. James switched careers in search of the opportunity to synthesize his diverse experiences in a way that would be not only intellectually gratifying but also personally fulfilling – he takes a particular interest in health equity and is very excited to work on healthcare and Medicaid focused projects at ATHENA.
In his free time, James participates in social activism and spends a lot of time reading about it. Outside of that, he enjoys horror movies, independent music, and old-school tabletop roleplaying games. He has a cat named Pickles.
Frances joined Athena in February 2025 as a Senior Analyst. After several years of teaching at Boise State University, Frances gained 10 years of actuarial analysis experience with a private health insurance company. Her responsibilities included Incurred But Not Reported reserving, budget forecasting, trend analysis, Value Based Care, Reinsurance and Pharmacy Rebates. Prior to joining Athena, Frances worked for Idaho Medicaid for two years. Within the government sector, she led a small team whose primary responsibility was budget forecasting and claims trend analyses. Frances is passionate about the accessibility of affordable and reliable health care for all. In her day-to-day work, she thrives in a collaborative setting where team members share ideas and knowledge, leading to increased efficiency.
Outside of work, Frances writes poetry, attends storytelling events, is a member of Toastmasters, and enjoys the feel of the sun on her face whenever possible.
Josie has been a Human Resources professional since 2020, dedicated to advocating for employees and fostering a positive work environment. Throughout her career she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive, and enjoyable atmosphere for the teams she works with. Her prior experience includes key responsibilities in recruiting, benefit administration, and employee engagement. By leveraging her knowledge and skills in these areas, Josie effectively contributes to the growth and success of the organizations she serves.
Josie holds a bachelor’s degree in business and healthcare administration, as well as an MBA, both earned from Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. By integrating her academic knowledge with her real-world experience, Josie brings a holistic perspective to her HR practices, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
In January of 2023, Josie returned to Carroll University as an Adjunct Instructor. She currently teaches Introduction to Business and Human Resources Management.
Outside of work, Josie enjoys traveling, going to Brewers games with her husband Andy, exploring Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin, and spending time with her dog (Bloom) and cat (Rowan).
